This CD, released in 1999, is a compilation of artists handpicked by Digital Bear Entertianment producer Jordan Tishler representing the best of the Boston music scene. Banter landed a spot on the disc by responding to an ad posted at their rehearsal space complex and sending in rough demos of material they'd recorded on Dan's 8-track recorder. In addition to production differences, you will notice arrangement differences between Banter's 2 tracks as compared to the Urban Pastures versions. Note that "Farewell" has an extended guitar solo, which was extended by accident when everyone lost track of the number of measures of rhythm guitar that Dan was laying down. Also note that the cello arrangement is different on this song, the result of Dan's absence from the recording session featuring Tishler's mother. On "Lowered," the difference is an abridge pre-chorus (the instrumental bit before "All the dreamers have been stoned." Perhaps the most productive thing about these recordings is that they improved upon and finalized the lyrics to "Farewell," which were re-written by Sheehan and Smith under Tishler's insistence. As with the "Springtime in February" cassette, Dan plays bass, credited as Vince Fontana, a role that would later be potrayed by Andy Warden and Doogie Mac. This CD is an excellent encapsulation of late 1990s Boston music as it features an eclectic assortment of artists, from Jame's O'Brien's folk to Evil People's hardcore sounds. |
